Overview
IRCC records its processing of each application in the Global Case Management System (GCMS). After a refusal, your GCMS notes often explain the officer's reasoning in much more detail than the refusal letter. They are requested through an access to information or privacy request.
Key requirements at a glance
- Notes can be requested by the applicant, or by a representative with consent
- Requests from outside Canada may need to be made through someone present in Canada
- Notes help decide whether to reapply, request reconsideration or seek judicial review
