Post-graduation work permit (PGWP)
An open work permit for eligible graduates of Canadian post-secondary programs.
Overview
The PGWP lets eligible international graduates work for any employer in Canada after completing their studies. The Canadian work experience it allows you to gain is often the foundation for a later permanent residence application, especially through the Canadian Experience Class.
Key requirements at a glance
- Completed a program of at least 8 months at a PGWP-eligible designated learning institution
- Maintained full-time student status during each semester (part-time is allowed in the final semester)
- Apply within 180 days of confirmation that you completed your program
- Language test results and, for some programs, field-of-study requirements apply
- Your permit can't be issued past your passport's expiry date, so renew your passport early if needed
